The Story

Anything Goes is a fastpaced, farcical comedy set aboard the S. S. American, an ocean liner en

route from New York to England in 1934. Among its passengers are evangelistturnednightclub-singer Reno Sweeney and her “Angels,” business tycoon Eli Whitney, debutante Hope Harcourt and her mother, and Hope's fiancee, the very wealthy Lord Evelyn Oakleigh.

Complications ensue when we discover that Hope is only marrying Evelyn because her mother insists on it in order to restore the family fortune, and that Billy Crocker, a young stockbroker whoworks for Eli Whitney, has stowed away on the ship to be with Hope, his one true love.

Joining this love triangle on board the luxury liner are Public Enemy #13, Moonface Martin, and his sidekickincrime, Erma, who are both trying to make a getaway aboard ship. With the help of some elaborate disguises, dancing sailors and good oldfashioned blackmail, Reno and Moonface join forces to help Billy in his quest to win Hope’s heart.

How will it all work out? Anything goes!
